The U.S. is moving to end "duration of status" for F-1 students, J-1 exchange visitors, and I visa (media representatives) holders, replacing it with fixed stay periods (often capped at 2-4 years).
The proposal cleared White House review on
August 7, 2025, and will be published soon for public comment before becoming final.
