You know, like most of us I came here to fulfill a dream..I guess we all call it the American dream. Recently got my Associates and moving towards graduating with bachelors in Information Systems. My plan was to graduate, do internship, find a job, get married, get a Green Card through job..leading to citizenship and just live life as we all do. I definitely didn't think it to be an easy process but never thought of it as impossible. However, all kind of people say all kind of things all the time. I don't know who to listen to. It reached the limit when today someone advised me to get Canadian citizenship because there is no future in US. Some say you wont find a job, you have to go to Indian consultancies..get a resume with experience...blah blah blah..
So, I just want to ask our Nepali brothers and sisters to share their experience after graduating. What did you do? Did it go as you planned? How tough was it to get the job? Do I really need to get that fake experience? Do I really need to think Canada as a better option? Am I gonna just have to continue study and get Phds after Phds just to remain in US? Am I ever gonna get that Green Card? Please tell me what to expect..in short, what really happens after graduation?

When I was at your stage, I was thinking of which class to attend in coming semester and how to get A on that class. Don't overwhelm yourself now by thinking about future.

its a good thing that you are in IT. make sure you try to learn marketbale technical skills in college. get certified by studying on your spring break, winter break or whenever possible. if you have certification before graduation, that puts you a notch above other graduates. dont underestimate the power of internships. even if you have to make some short term sacrifice for internships, you will get the benefit in the long term. be active in your department and try to be involved in clubs and organizations. start on your resume the beginning of your last semester in college and start applying to places then. dont wait to graduate to apply.
