Without disclosing your private details, care to share your qualifications (educational background, skills, work experience et al)? I'm sure people can give you better insights if you managed to flaunt your talent other than "speak English fluently and very hard working guy".

The fact that you've already realized that you won't make/save anything by working menial jobs in NYC is a great kickstart.
