I know this has been asked before, but what do you have to do to use a regular US cellular phone in Nepal, if at all possible? I have a samsung one from verizon. What's the deal with sim cards? Can anyone shed some light ?

Usually phones are operator locked. So u have to unlock that phone if u want to use SIM card of others network. In Nepal GSM is dual band i.e 900/1800 GHz. U can find lots of page about how to unlock phones. But watch out if u enter wrong code again and again mobile hardware may be destroyed. Ok. If u need detail information than u can send me model number of ur mobile.

t-mobile and cingular use GSM phones with SIM card thus can be used in Nepal.

now with verizon there is a catch. it does not have any sim card thus needs to find whether u r using triple band tri mode phone. then can be used

Kristen if u have Verizon phone u can't use it in Nepal coz Verizon, sprint do not use sim cards and even there is no slot to use ur sim card on it they have something like TDMA,CDMA technology. But in Nepal they have GSM technology that requires sim cards that we use here in T-mobile,Cingular.Quad band phones might work like Motorola V6 but u have to unlock it first as others said.
