Can i work part time using my SSN elsewhere while I am on H-1? I am scared as I am going to transfer my H-1 to another  consultancy and it might be a good two months before i get a job. So I need to work due to obvious financial reasons. I can't seem to find any cash jobs and as a matter of fact I dont even know how to go about it. I am in NYC and I am only looking to work evenings or weekends for cash. Does anyone know of any agency that can help place people who dont want to use their SSN? Also, what are the complications that might arise if I do work with my SSN?

As far as I know, you cannot work 2nd job under the H-1B visa which is specifically for the job you applied the visa for.

You don't want to jeopardize your status, but I have heard of the agencies in Jackson Heights.

Once your H1B is started, then  you will be faced problem, if you work through SSN. Because, its specifically authorised for the particular company and job to work under H1 visa. If you want to work another job, then you have suppose to get H1B in the second company too. People can have more than 1 H1B.
