Is it only me or are there others out there who have a difficulity making friends?
After i came to the US, it has been really hard to make real friends.
In college, I will know some people in class but that only last for 1 semester.
After that semester, we are strangers all over again.
Sometimes I feel like nobody is out there to make friends anymore.
I meet nepali people but they already have a set of fixed friends and dont want more.
So how do I make friends ??

What are your current approaches to making friends? What are the different things you do?

sometimes you have to be a friend to make a friend... if that makes any sense.  Try getting to know the people that you are socializing, studying with ... what interests them, their values, etc. and start conversing and planning things around that to build your network of friends, if you're comfortable with doing that. Partake in activities where you get to meet people, assuming you're in college, there are lots of opportunities to do that. But remember that it's a 2 way street. Also, i don't think that the definition of friends includes having to be a nepali, while yes that might be your comfort zone, remember that you're not in Nepal anymore. I have friends from different cultures and I've been surprised by how supporting they can be. Don't limit yourself.

Also, no one can ever have enough friends, albeit true friendships are rare.

I assume you live off-campus else it's not difficult to meet good people whom you can call friends. I am sure there are a lot of clubs in your school. Try and join one or two of such clubs. It is a good starting point. Also be open to people from other countries. I have met wonderful people from Japan, Korean,America,Brazil whom I call friends. Good luck! Be confident!

Hey Star,

Dont be desperate. having lived both on and off campus, i can tell living off campus can be comparatively lonely. Be open and honest and make sure your body language isnt repelling people away. Dont be afraid to talk to people first and dont feel judged by them. Dont wait to be invited, take a step and call people and ask them what theyre upto and try to spend some time. Dont take it negatively if they say they cannot but also dont keep persisting if they say no on several occasions. Above all be patient, good friendships take time to build. oh yeah and dont smell bad.
